Titanic Ocean Floor Body
The telemotor on the titanic s bridge is where titanic s officers tried to avoid the iceberg.
Titanic ocean floor body. Here captain edward john smith is believed to have been when the ship sank. The ship was explored by manned and unmanned. The bow is still recognisable with many preserved interiors despite deterioration and damage sustained hitting the sea floor. 2 37 mi about 370 miles 600 km south southeast off the coast of newfoundland it lies in two main pieces about a third of a mile 600 m apart.
His body was never recovered. While the assumption is that decades in the ocean would have led to total disintegration the discovery of the wreck of the titanic in 1985 also prompted a debate over whether there could be human remains embedded in the wreckage two and a half miles below the surface of the atlantic. For over 70 years the titanic sat on the bottom of the ocean waiting for man to find her again. Finally on september 1 1985 an ocean explorer by the name of robert ballard discovered her again.
Seventy three years after it sank to the north atlantic ocean floor a joint u s french expedition locates the wreck of the rms titanic the sunken liner was about 400 miles east of newfoundland. With a three man submarine ballard and others went down to the wreck and began taking pictures of her rusting hulk. If a human body were instantly tranferred from the ocean s surface where there is 1 atmosphere of pressure to the depth where the titanic lies an addition of 1 atmosphere for every 10 metres then the air chambers would be immediately flattered. The wreck of the rms titanic lies at a depth of about 12 500 feet 3 8 km.
When the rms titanic sunk in 1912 the grand ship took with her over 1500 people. Amazing photos show vessel containing three rotting bodies including a man still in his dinner jacket which was found by passing liner a month later and 200 miles away. Photos were taken during submarine explorations of the site and the release of some of those photos suggest.
